On Friday, October 8, 2021, we were greatly honoured to host the official inauguration of the Centre for the History of Renaissance Knowledge*.

The opening speech was provided by Prof. Danilo Facca, the Deputy Director of the Institute, and referred to the Warsaw School of History of Ideas which is a strong inspiration for our Centre and its goals. After this, Prof. Valentina Lepri, the Director of the Centre, welcomed everyone warmly emphasizing how meaningful to her is not only the Centre but also the team of ERC project as well as all the scholars with whom she worked over the years.

Very crucial for us was the moment of unveiling our logo. Inspired by ‘The School of Athens‘ by Raphael and placed on a new plaque, the logo greatly reflects the idea of the Centre focusing on studying knowledge production, where the term knowledge brings together ideas and a wide range of human experiences.

This event was a wonderful opportunity to not only welcome the Centre in the ‘real’ world (as opposed to all our social media and other channels of communication) and introduce it to our guests but also to pleasantly spend an evening with friends and co-workers while having enaging conversations, decent amounts of laughter, and simply a great time.

Long live the Centre!

* The Centre was formally recognized as an independent unit operating at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences by the Institute’s Scientific Council in December 2020 and has been dynamically working, actively collaborating and recruiting researchers from the whole Europe since then. Due to the pandemic of COVID-19 some of our actions had to be strongly limited (such as conducting study missions or participation and organization of variety of events) making the whole team even more determined with their research valuing especially every possibility of meeting in person.
