Once per year we organize a workshop which brings the whole team together, face to face, to discuss our progress, dispel current research doubts, and decide on future steps. This time it took place in Cracow (the former royal capital of Poland), on December 18-20, 2022, and was accompanied by the Christmas atmosphere.
The main focus was on the documentary sources, methods, and research paths in the intellectual history of the early modern age. Each of the team member presented the case study which was later broadly analyzed by the others. The real advantage came from the vast experience of guests we invited, those being: Prof. Benedek Láng (Eötvös Loránd University); Dr. Dennj Solera (University of Bologna); and Dr. Andrea Strazzoni (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice).
A real treasure of this event was the possibility to visit two libraries – the Princes Czartoryski Library and, especially, the Library of the Carmelite Monastery at Piasek. At the latter, our team and guests, were joined by Dr. Szymon Sułecki (an archivist at the Library of the Carmelite Monastery at Piasek), who introduced us to the library’s history and holdings, and Prof. Justyna Kiliańczyk-Zięba (Jagiellonian University), who concentrated on the volumes from Anton Schneeberger’s library.
The last day was mostly devoted to an open discussion with our guests as well as a presentation of a few books which drew the attention of our team. The finishing touch of the meeting involved dissemination of research and visibility of the author.
It was an extreme pleasure to meet during this Christmas season, to share and advise on our research among each other, and to speak about the perspectives for the future. We hope our guests have similar feelings. We are planning a meeting next year!
