In the middle of September some of us travelled to Ca’ Foscari University in Venice to attend the biannual conference of the “International Society for Intellectual History”. This year’s topic focused on “Epistemologies”.
All the participants affiliated with our Centre, i.e. Prof. Danilo Facca, Dr. Luisa Brotto (Fellow of Nawa Ulam Programme – Seal of Excellence) and Dr. Matthias Roick (PASIFIC Fellow), presented their research during the panel “Ethical Knowledge as a Source of Power. The Institutionalization of Ethics in Renaissance Central Eastern European Educational Culture Through the Lens of Political Epistemology” that took place on September 14, 2022. In their presentations, they discussed such crucial issues as the political-ethical ideology of the Zamość Academy (Luisa Brotto), the status of practical philosophy in ethical teaching in Polish schools (Danilo Facca), and the late humanistic conception that inspired the ethical section of the Augustana Library in Wolfenbuttel (Matthias Roick).
The event was a great opportunity not only to share our research and results but, and maybe more importantly, to actively (and deeply) discuss them with excellent scholars such as Vera Keller, Sarah Hutton and Pietro Omodeo (organizer of the conference) – all of that in one of the most beautiful universities in the world.
